Sorry for long time absence, as we got stuck with some alteration works for our house. I could not find time to spare time to my blog. Recently, I thought it would be useful to show basic stitches I mostly use in my ribbon embroidery works. For the first part, I will display 4 basic stitches with you.

Feather Stitch

In Turkish we call this stitch as Y stitch as it resembles us the style of Y letter :) This is a line stitch that is worked down towards. I did not care that pictures are taken horizontally but you assume it as vertically, it will be easier for you :)

I’ve used 7 mm silk ribbon in this stitch. First thread your ribbon through your needle’s eye and bring your needle up from down at point 1, pull down at point 2 and bring up again at point 3.

Then, keep the distance parallel to points 2-3 line and pull your needle down at point 4. And then bring up at point 5. At this point keep the ribbon beneath the needle!

We’ve already completed our 2 Y stitch. In this step you may be confused but just follow the points you will get easy to complete it. So for this step, pull your needle down at point 6 and up at point 7.

Final result of our Feather (Y ) stitch is like this :)

Gathered Ribbon Rose

In Turkisg, we call as “Pitircik” for the ribbon I used in my this flower stitch. Never seen this type of ribbon in foreign blogs. This ribbon has sewing eyes on its edges that you can bring thred towards. I’m not sure if my explanation is clear but you can understand it from the first picture:)

For this flower, I used 5 mm Pitircik Ribbon. Using a machine sewing thread, bring it through sewing eyes with your needle as demonstrated in picture.

Pull up thread slightly to gather your ribbon.

Fold your ribbon around center and sew tops of ribbon with thread to the fabric.

At the end, put a white pearl bead in center. Here is our lovely flower :)

Fly Stitch

There are of course various Fly stitches but the one I will share is the most common used one I guess. Here is how to,

In this stitch, I have used 7 mm ribbon but you can also use 3 mm instead. First bring up your needle from 1 and pull down at point 2.

Sorry that the angle of the picture is not the same as in previous picture..I hope you do not confuse..Bring up your ribbon from point 3 and hold ribbon with your thumb. Then down ribbon at point 4 and up from 5.

In the next step, pull your ribbon down about 2 cm far from point 5 as seen in picture.

And in this step, bring up your ribbon from point 6, pull down at 7 and bring up again at point 8 similarly we did in our 2nd step.

We finally complete our Fly Stitch.

Loop Stitch

In Turkish we call this stitch as “Daisy” but in english term it has different name. I learnt it thanks to Meri. So let’s start this post’s last how-to stitch.

I’ve used 10 mm ribbon for this stitch and start with bringing your ribbon up from underside of fabric.

Right through the near point we brought ribbon, pull down your ribbon backside and leave a loop size to make your petal.

For this I used a pencil to give each petal a smooth look.

Similarly repeat the same loops in a circle for as many petals you want to make for your flower. You can embellish your flower with some beads also as I did :)

Finally

I hope you enjoyed these tutorials. I specially want to thank Meri for helping me naming these stitches which I was not sure. Please extend me your thoughts, ideas or any requests. Next time, I will create a 2nd series of this Simple SRE Stitches Tutorials and afterwards I will show you how to make Hydrangea Flower Stitch.

Last week, we finally started our Ribbon Embroidery Day which we consider doing weekly with our friends. First, we embroidered using Carnation Flower technique on towels but could not take photos of them yet. As soon as I do it, I will upload them to my site too. The following is another model worked on a wrap by one of our friends in our group. We loved this great work and considering embroidering it in our later activities. And I will also add step by step instructions for the technique used in flowers as soon as possible hopefully. The technique is called Ortanca in Turkish, and not sure but it must be called Hydrangea in english, please correct me if you know the proper naming. I hope you love it :)

By the way, I also want to translate my another new ribbon embroidery stitches tutorial topic but I’m not sure for the corresponding stitch techniqe names in english. Could you please help me naming them ?

Silk Ribbon Embroidery, my puppy love in my craft adventure and almost the only one, is a romantic art that you can not give up once you practice. It is fan and very easy to complete that you will come to a winsome floral results. You can embellish any hat, bouqets, bags, basket etc..but I mostly apply embroidery on towel and engagement wrap because these are very popular in our country, Turkey. I did not have much free time to translate my turkish posts but if you want, you can browse my previous ribbon embroidery works & patterns. But I translated all step by step SRE Tutorials that are with easy-to-follow instructions

It has been around 2 weeks I’m visiting english language bloggers and I wanted to share with you my very first web findings for Ribbon Embroidery works, patterns, tutorials, stitches. ( Sites are not in any particular order )

Silk Ribbon Embroidery

Silk Ribbon Embroidery by Carol Daisy

Carol’s site is one of my very first finding that is dedicated to Silk Ribbon Embroidery. Actually found her site while I’m in need to make sure for the corresponding stitches terms for the ones I use in turkish. And since that day I follow her updates. She has many great easy-to-follow demonstrations for SRE tutorials, hints for beginners , and many lovely creations. Make sure to add her site to your favourites!

Ingeborg Loves Flowers

Ingeborg Loves Flowers

I really can not find words to say about her Silk Ribbon Embroidery works. They are just awesome, adorable! She also make giveaways and I say do not miss her updates :). Her ribbon works are heavy and every stitch she does really worth it. She is my favourite! At least for now :)

Vani’s Embroidery Blog

Vani's Embroidery Blog

Vani’s blog is also a must for beginners. She demonstrated many basic and popular silk ribbon embroidery stitches like straight stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, lazy daisy, french knot and so on. She also has some delicate floral ribbon works you must see. As she does not use labelling, I can not give you direct link for them. Make sure to visit her site and give her feedbacks what she will be very happy as all we bloggers do :)

I have been blogging for about 4 months and started with adding my completed craft projects mostly on Silk Ribbon Embroidery. Starting something from scratch is really painful if you do not know anything about blogging. Thanks to my brother, I did not have such difficulties. Coming mostly from search engines, I reached an acceptable visitor count in my 4th month, about at 800-900 unique visitors a day. I was targeting only visitors from Turkey as my blog was maintained in turkish. It has been over 2 weeks I manage my site bilingual; in english as addition. Then I started seeking english bloggers and I have explored great talented bloggers around world and honestly this decreased my productivity :) In each craft project pages, and in each sites in their blogroll I explore another sites, another great projests and I can’t help but just viewing their creations. I was amazed with the touch of women hands on knittings, crochettings, quiltings and many so on. And my little world, squuezed into Silk Ribbon Embroidery projects :) SRE is my puppy love and can not spare time to learn other things much.

Not in any particular order, following list is my picks from my about 2 weeks web findings of Craft Portals that you can find frequently updates contents of craft related projects, patterns, tutorials.

Craft Gossip – Craft Blog Network

Craft Gossip | Craft Blog Network

The very recent Crafty site I explored and author was so kind to review my SRE tutorials and create post for them. This site will bring you a lot craft stuff, ideas, tutorials, projects around web. The content is very rich and frequently updated. Read more about Craft Gossip and meet authors to explore more.

whip up | handcraft in a hectic world

whip up | handcraft in a hectic world

Kathreen Ricketson, the editor and originators of the site, says she aims make her site to be central central meeting place for ideas and projects and technical advice for all the latest that is handmade around the world. And indeed content servers her aim. You will find exciting craft works, tutorials, ideas similarly and you will find many projects to inspire for your works.

One Pretty Thing

One Pretty Thing

I liked very much the idea behind this site. And what the great is site is not managed by multiple author, that is what I understand from About page. Rachel, the editor of site, does some great work If she is the only person behind such hard work. You should check this site everyday because her picks around web are outstanding! Hopefully she picks my works one day too :) What I’m concerned about her site is that, search engines does not help her much because content is not post based. I hope she can get some help from SEO experts.

craftzine | dedicated to the world of crafts

craftzine | dedicated to the world of crafts

Having podcasts, magazine pages, this Craft site outstands among others. Their about page make no need to say extra word about them :)

CRAFT is dedicated to the renaissance that is occurring within the world of crafts. Celebrating the DIY spirit, CRAFT’s goal is to unite, inspire, inform and entertain a growing community of highly imaginative and resourceful people who are transforming traditional art and crafts with unconventional, unexpected and even renegade techniques, materials and tools; people who undertake amazing crafting projects in their homes and communities.

Craft Stylish

Craft Stylish

And this is the latest Crafty Portal site I explored among others. I did not have much free time to explore its functions but you can register for free and share your own projects on site. I will also try it later :) I would to like to excerpt their about page

CraftStylish is the ultimate crafting resource that we craved, but couldn’t find—a place to connect, discover and share with other crafters. It’s the destination for fabulous inspiration and expert instruction on the latest trends, projects, ideas, and materials. Whatever craft you love—knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, embroidery, jewelrymaking, and more—you’ll find the best information and community at CraftStylish.com.

Final Words

I’m not that old in blogging environment to explore the popular crafty, handiwork sites. Do you know any other site aggregate projects, inspritation around web ? Let me know please, I would love to extend my list in my another post.

Today we will give another nice shot to our silk ribbon and come out with a flower stitch that we call in Turkey as Star Rose . This guide is another tutorial I translate that I made for my turkish blog. and with this I will have completed translating all my Silk Ribbon Embroidery tutorials. Surely more to come later days. Seeing my tutorials linked in some popular craft sites like Blisstree and Craftgossip makes me very happy and encourage for more tutorials. So let’s start our SRE Star Rose Technique Tutorial. For the text on images, I had to use the images I inserted in my turkish tutorial.

Materials Needed for Silk Ribbon Embroidery Star Rose Stitch

10 mm Silk Ribbon

Ribbon Needle

Fabric

Embroidery Hoop

Step by Step Silk Ribbon Embroidery Star Rose Stitch

First thread your ribbon through your needle so your ribbon may not fray. Pull your needle from under fabric and take it upside. I see foreign bloggers use inches for measurements but I’m not much familiar with inches :) So have to tell that, for the size you see on fabric of other completed star roses, hold your ribbon at one handspan distance. If you want to make wider rose, then hold your ribbon at longer distance from fabric.

Hold you needle on ribbon as seen in picture

Just as in needle lace( I assume you know:) ), make a knot on ribbon.

Now make straight stitches on ribbon downward with 1/2 cm or 1 cm distances.

Keep making straight stitches as seen in picture.

When you have completed your threading, pierce your needle from the point you started.

Pull your needle gently downward until your un-stitched ribbon taken under fabric.

Our lovely star rose shined and blossomed finally:)

It has been a long time since I posted in Ribbon Embroidery Patterns and Projects category. Today I will share with you my most recent work I embroidered an engagement wrap. For the flowers, I have applied Sunflower technique which I created tutorial for you previously. To make beads look more fluffy, I have put silk gause under beads. It would be deformed if I had put cotton. But you can also sew more beads instead of using silk gause. Smaller flowers look like violets but applied some different technique on them too, made straight stitches and pulled them slightly. And similarly applied straight stitches on petals too. I hope you liked my this ribbon work :)

However it looks as wonderful as ribbon embroidery in my opinion. I have taken this lovely pattern’s photo in our district’s Arts Exhibition this year. Embroidery worked on a wrap which is very popular in our turkish engagement traditions. I have not learned brazilian embroidery stitches & techniques yet but I will share with you if I do one day.

Yet another SRE tutorial I’m gonna demonstrate you today. I like too much, love and and fancy this flower. And enjoyed during making it. I hope you will also like it and easily create after reading my tutorial. Creating the tutorial page of ribbon embroideries are harden then doing itself :) But worth to do so, so please support me with your feedbacks :) Now let’s start our SRE Rose Tutorial.

Materials Required for Silk Ribbon Rose Embroidery

Ribbon Needle

Embroidery Hoop

Monaray Fabric

13 mm Majestic Silk Ribbon

4 mm Majestic Silk Ribbon

7 mm Majestic Batik Silk Ribbon

4 mm Majestic Batik Green Silk Ribbon

Step by Step Silk Ribbon Rose Embroidery

Before starting your rose, you can draw your design pattern on fabric. I did not use pattern for this sample, just drew motif where i will start making rose as you see on picture.

Right after your ribbon is through the needle, complete ribbon stitches for each rose petal. These petal will give more fluffy looks for your roses.

As you know in leaf technique, you will make similar ribbon stitches so that petals will be under. Hope image is clear for this step.

Keep applying your stitches and finally you will create your rose.

To make petal’s outlines apparet, applying smaller pullings use similar stitching that you use in leaf technique .

And completed rose part almost finally.

With 7 mm silk ribbon, i applied french knot work in the center of rose but could not create screenshots for this step. Hopefully I will also show it when I have the chance later.

To create more adorable rose, I also made fly stitches ( thanks to méri for correcting me) styled leaves. giving you another tutorial in this way :) For leaves, I used 4 mm majestic green ribbon. We start with a simple pulling for the leaf.

Then from the near side of our first stitch of leaf, take your needle upperside and lay your ribbon in parallel direction and pull your needle down again.

From the tip of our first leaf, take your needle upperside and make o bow-tie on the parallely created leaf.

And you finally create the first line of the leaf.

Similarly continue stitches in parallel with the first leaf line we did.

and after applying this for 5-6 times, you complete your first herringbone styled leaf.

The finished piece of rose is a pleasure to look at :)

In order not to waste my ribbon, I created two leaves :)

Final Words

I was generally sharing some patterns at the end of tutorials that applied in previous posts. But I have not shared any one yet on my site. Did you ever do this stitch ? Please share with me. I will be very happy to share with you. For any steps not clear, please let me know, I will try to elaborate more.

This will be my 3. tutorial in my Ribbon Embroidery Stitching Techniques writing series. As you know previously I showed you step by step tutorials for making Sunflower and Star Rose ribbon stitches. And it was pretty hard for me to create this tutorial also, as managing pictures and writing clear instructions are much harder than making ribbon stitch’s itself :) so please support me with your feedbacks. In my blog’s turkish language section, I had shared cool a quote from a passage about carnation flower but my english is not enough well to translate it in english, sorry :)

Now let’s go on for the steps required for our ribbon technique. Btw, you will find descriptions on images in turkish language which i created for my lovely turkish readers. sorry that it will be hard to re-upload images for english also. It will take too much time. Hope you understand me :)

Materials Required for Ribbon Embroidery Carnation Flower Technique

30cm pink carnation ribbon

15cm green carnation ribbon

Needle

Threads that will suite with ribbons

Pink carnation beads

Embroidery hoop

Step by step Carnation Ribbon Stitch

In our carnation ribbon stitch steps, first stitch along the selvedge as you see in the first picture

When your stitching is complete, bring thread up and gather the ribbon slightly.

Then fold your ribbon 3 times that tips of ribbon will be in inside.

These are three embroidered towel patterns I sold in our shop before. I shared the ribbon embroidery pattern you see in the middle previously on my site. The pattern you see on top is made with silk ribbon and it is very easy to make. And the one at the bottom is made with organza ribbon, flowers are anemone and leaves are again from silk ribbon. The smaller flowers are called star rose here, naming may change there :). Hope you like it :)
